Bikes on my 2008 3.0d m sport

Post by Theoldbaker » Mon Jul 13, 2015 5:25 pm

Hello all. Off touring around France in August and was wondering what the best solution to taking my road bike with me was. Can't seem to find anything for the back of the car as I have no towbar. If that is the case then on the roof is goes?
Cheers.

Single road bike?
For security and ease on road, why not take off wheels and fit bike in the back?

I found the best solution for me was an all-Thule setup using their Wing Bars, adapters for the low m-sport rails on my 2012, and the OutRide 561.  Found an online retailer that sold this as a package.

I couldn't find a rear mount that would allow boot access easily.  Also a carbon road bike means fork-mount only and 6'4" rider means the 61" frame struggles to fit in the back with any amount of luggage. The front wheel sits neatly down the side of the boot, or between the kids!

No noticeable effect on economy at French motorway speeds - when you look at the profile of the car versus that of the bike you can see why!

Hi you can get a bike carrier by BMW that fits into the towing eyelets on the rear bumper it fits 2 bikes but you can buy an adapter that lets you fit a third , all you would need then would be an electrics connector !

Or...

Lean the bike up against the rear of the car,
Reverse over it then just drive off.

Problem solved....
>:D
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)
