G'day
Had a bit of a lurk around earlier on.
I've been around BMWs on and off for a few decades. Started with bikes... still have a first run R90S (in bits at present), an old Funduro 650. Bought an E34 535 about 10 years back as a family hack.. had it until about a year ago. Liked it, so bought an E34 M5 (3.6), which I still have. I've done most of the work on the M5, including a full engine rebuild, all the bushes, etc. It goes well.
A couple of years back, I struck some issues getting the M5 ready for a run through the mountains with the guys and a mate loaned me his X5 - a 3.0i - and I enjoyed it. I've been in it when he got it airborne and I've driven it hard in the twisties and some remoter roads. He's recently bought an 06 3.0d because his wife commandeered the petrol X5 and he needs a tow car for his Subie track car. Again... I liked it.
So, yesterday, he'd mentioned a late X5 3.0d on a local auction site. I tracked it down and bought it. It turns out that its one he'd been keen on before he bought his... but it'd been a bit far for him to go look. The owner had given up trying to sell it and traded it in. The dealer sent it to auction.
So... I've got an August '06 build X5 3.0d with lots of options. It's for the wife. We'll sell her current driver - a Subaru Outback, which I like... but I've got some titanium below my knee... and no matter which front seat I sit in, the damn thing presses on the screws/plate.... and hurts it. The X5 doesn't.
The plan is to pick up the X5 tomorrow, throw some new rubber on and play the paperwork game with the gubbies.
