When I turn the key it will make a cranking sound but won't fire up. I then turn the key again and it's fine.
I took it to a BMW dealer who said there was nothing on the diagnostics but the mechanic said he thinks it maybe a crank sensor that needs replacing. I paid £250 to get it replaced and it's no better.
Any suggestions?

Get your £250 back for a start, then take it to your local indy, who won't just plug it in and say, don't know so I'll guess. After all, the punter pays the bill for my misdiagnosis.

If its a 3 ltr it will be the intake cam sensor playing up. Probably.
