Re: e70 advice
All very similar
As all based on twin turbo
Think it came out as
3.0sd
35d xdrive
Both the same I think
40d is facelift
With the newer gearbox
Power on all are similar
More on the 40d with better mpg

Re: e70 advice
35d was the last iteration of the M57 engine and the 40d got the cleaner burning N57 unit and a DPF! I think the SD was just a marketing name and became the xDrive35d. Same basic car. It might have a later version of the ZF 6-speed?
Higher VED than the 30d and 40d and economy can be poor - though after your 6.3ML I doubt that is an issue...
40d has higher torque and power. If you can stretch that far,it is worth it, especially with the 8sp box, better iDrive, more up to date electronics.

is the Ved higher? its listed at £290 and 220g/km so think its only marginally higher though this is no factor really is not alot of difference the ml is £505 anyway, dont want to spend extra really on a 40d as i want an auc car for warranty dont want any hp/finance etc, i also need an extra van so i'm only looking as despite loving the ml63 i've started doing more miles in it and i used £300 petrol the other week which is getting a little well at 80% tax sickening, so was thinking a 35d will be the answer in power and im hoping better than 180-330 miles per tank.

My XDrive 35d was registered in December 2009. It doesnt have the 8 speed box, but does have the newer idrive with hard drive nav and music storage. I think they started changing them around Oct 2009? Power is 286bhp and gives very respectable performance and for 300-400 quid you can up that to 340-350 bhp together with a 20% torque increase. I thought about it, but in all honesty, ai dont think it really needs it. 40d has 306 bhp stock.
Mpg averaging 27, tank range shows 550-600 full up,mdepending on how I've been driving it, but if I drive it like a pensioner I can get 36-37 on a run. Had an E53 30d sport, 218 bhp before and the 35d is a far better car.

Re: e70 advice
I too have the 3.0sd. Amazing car with good power and MPG. I changed from driving an E46 M3 as a daily for 5 years. I test drove many 3.0d and well in love with the 1st 3.0sd I drove.

40d is Band J (198g/km), so just one lower than 35d. Marginal as you say

Re: e70 advice
So for an update i'm going for a look tomorrow at the car, he's provisionally offered to match wbac price in px on the ml with view to going up by 1k if its as clean as i say (it is like new) which is making the cost to change small, however when i wbac their car the price is alot lower than screen price (5k) does this mean its over priced or does an auc car hold money better? also if i decide to go ahead is there anything i should be pushing for? I said more important was the condition of his car as mine is a1, his reply was if anything wasnt up to my satisfaction they would send it to be done before collection, also will the swap/ put my plate on retention?
thanks

Welcome back...not that you ever went really

Re: e70 advice
long wait till a week on fri
tbh i was quite impressed with the 35d even compared to the ml, it got to legal speeds plenty quick enough, the ml was only going to cost me my license although ive a sneaking suspicion i may have got done 80 in a 70 on way there

Re: e70 advice
Hi check the tyres if they are all even tread & same make should give you an indication weather the car has been pampered , they tend to were on the inside so check for the scrub over a grand to replace so may help to reduce the screen price or get them to replace .
