Heard this today when i called bmw uk customer services...regret dont have more details but those owners with this model should contact their local dealer.
X5 xdrive30d sport 2012, past E39 530i sport touring , e46 330ci.

There is a recall for the replacement of the passenger airbag module (it's free too).  Ours was done in May.  It affects all versions covering about 4 million cars!

Something to do with the gas generator being likely to fail to detonate correctly because of damp powder.

thats good of them with the newest e46 been 9 now

I've got an e46 m3...can't beleive they're doing a recall after all this time. Will ring $tealers and find out what it's all about

As said above, faulty explosive in the front passenger airbag inflator.  Takes them about an hour to do.
