My First BMW

I have just purchased a 53 plate Phase 1 X5 3.0d over here in France. I was looking for a RHD anyway (as I live near mountains I actuallly prefer them as I can better negotiate ditches).  Still on UK plates, 100k miles, gearbox replaced and BMW FSH, just had Inspection II totalling €700.

It came with some small niggles - MID pixels, clouded lights, broken elec mirror and erratic fan and thanks to this forum, internet and ebay plus a little 'savoir-faire', all have been attended to in less than a week.  That, with a FREE Certificate of Conformity from BMW GB and a local road test and it should be on local plates early next week.

Have driven exclusively Audi for past 8 years and had a 'temporary' Volvo for 3 months which has driven me nuts and so I am very pleasantly surprised by my initial experience in the BMW fold..

Next project - audio/video, my Audi Dension isn't compatible and I only have in-dash Business CD so making an Aux-in cable to tide me over, but on the look out for Reverse Camera and Amp/subwoofer options if anyone has any recommendations...thx

thanks, anyone accustomed to roads round my way knows that the locals delight in crossing the white line into your path of traffic, particularly common on blind bends in areas where the tarmac is just not wide enough for two vehicles and the drop off into the ditch is quite scary; actually the mountain roads are wider
