New Owner

Post by PhilT » Fri May 15, 2015 9:45 am

After 6 years with my E53 X5 I'm now the proud owner of a 2011 X6 30D - Sapphire Black with Oyster leather and dark bamboo trim. I absolutely love the car but I'm glad I've got a handbook as it's pretty different to the E53  :o

I've got a couple of early questions I'm hoping someone can help me out with:

I want to upgrade the DRL's to something whiter/brighter.  As far as I can gather from old threads MTEC bulbs were the way to go - is this still the case & if so what spec/type of bulb is required?  Is it just one bulb per side accessed through the round plastic cover?

Also, I mostly do short local journeys and want to make sure the DPF doesnt get clogged.  is there a manual procedure to clean it or is it a case of taking it for a good run every so often?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'll be selling the E53 X5 private so if anyone is looking for one give me a shout.

Plug and play job.  H8 bulb.

DPF is auto controlled.  No manual 'clean' function available.  Either has to be dealer triggered or you need to do 40mph journeys with the rpm kept higher in a manual gear for at least 20 mins, preferably a bit longer.

My car has LUX bulbs, yes single bulb each side. Helps fitting if you have small hands or a girlfriend willing to help

Cheers,

I tried the MTEC ones from HIDS direct and they didn't seem very bright so I got some LED ones off them and they're much better (cost a bit more though!)

And you're right about fitting - definitely need small hands!
