Evidence of some connection in arm rest? Any Ideas?

While looking in my centre arm rest cubby hole I noticed a couple of holes and what appears to be wires.

Anybody any idea what this could have been?

That is an audio line-in for an I-Phone potentially.

I think the only reason it is disconnected is cos the centre console has probably been removed at some point.

Agreed. The holes look exactly like the Aux In mod for the iPod/iPhone earphone output offered from 2005 onwards as a retrofit.

It took the form of a 3.5mm jack socket wired to the back of the Nav/Audio head etc. Mine was in the glovebox - BMW official location - and I used it for about a month before getting something else. No remote functionality!
