Windows 10

Post by Mpower » Sun Jun 14, 2015 12:19 pm

Anyone thinking about the new Windows 10 OS either upgrade or full installation due at the end of July 2015?

Had the Windows Pro insider preview installed and to give an unbiased opinion coming from windows 7 it's much better in terms layout and user friendliness.
It boots much quicker than Windows 7 ultimate on the same laptop which is quite impressive and MS has carried some of the layout from Windows8 and left the unwanted features out.

Nice OS and would I upgrade from windows 7 because I never liked windows 8 well it's a definite yes considering it's a stable preview build.

I hope its better than Windows 8. That thing is a PITA.

Mac OS X is getting a bit dry now, its had the same user interface for ages. I wish desktop computers were like BMW iDrive systems, we get something fresh and new every 4 or so years :D

It's miles better than Win8 believe me but I do agree with the IOS becoming a bit stale with not much changes for their upgrades.

Have seen it in use on our trial systems in the office.  It is a vast improvement on Windoze 8 and the techies are saying that it is well worth upgrading.

It has a smaller 'footprint' than both Win7/8/8.1 so even modest hardware should work well.

I believe the upgrade will overwrite some settings used by software so beware, and back up everything first!

Windows 7/8/8.1 users should start to see a mini-Windows icon on the right hand side of your system tray (bottom of the screen.  If you double click on it then you can register for the upgrade.  It takes less than a minute to do  :)

You will get a 'like-for-like' upgrade, but you will have the option to get a better version as long as you pay.

After 12-months, Microsoft will be charging upwards of £100 for the basic version.

Pre-Windows 7 (XP/Vista) users will have to pay from Day1.  No free upgrades.

It's rare for MS to offer something for free,I've read it'll be the last windows OS as we know it probably moving towards tablet formats.

Apple updates are now free so I guess MS had to follow.....

I think they are looking at an annual release cycle as well so this will be the last version as we know it.

Giving it a smaller 'footprint' can only be a good thing.  If you have ever looked into the files etc in Windows versions, some of them date back decades but have been left in place because it's easier.  Very bad way to code though.

I am waiting for the Pi version, a full Win10 machine for £20 - will make a few of my machines redundant.

And assuming the 'Delhi' version is the same rather than a code name for Windoze 3.1  :))
