Hi gurus
On the hunt for 3.0 diesel X3, probably around 55 or 56 plate Sport auto. There seem to be some half decent ones on Auto trader.
After some general advice about what to look out for. Reading the forum, main issues seem to be:
Make sure it has decent matching tyres, check the profiles are correct
On the test drive, check the gearbox and drivetrain are smooth.
Budget to have the swirl flaps blanked off, if that has not been done already
Check sunroof works properly and for rear wash wipe operation
Good luck around the bottom of the engine and drivetrain for fluid leaks
Budget for a gearbox fliuid change.
Has anyone written a buyers guide? Other things to look for?
Thanks

Make sure it says 'X5' on the back.

The X3 in E83 format is an amazing car and don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise.
Tyres HAVE to be 'Star' rated to make sure there are no problems.
Swirl flaps are relatively easy to do yourself for under £50.
Rear springs will have been broken during its life so you just need to know when they last were replaced. Mine went at around 45k.
Even if full BMW service history expect to change:
Fuel filter and engine oil breather from toilet roll to roller type.

How dare you call me a troll.
Simon may be saucy, but he's still correct in saying that an X5 of that age is a better bet than that generation X3
