Hi gurus of the forum
Sadly my 2001 525i is getting too old. While I love driving it, it does nothing for the rest of the family. Funny how what was a big car isn't big when you add daughters, dogs, bikes, etc
I want an 3.0 diesel X 3 and there seem to be some good ones for sale on Auto trader which cheers me up no end.
Is there a buyers guide on the forum anywhere?
From what I have read, critical things to look for:
A decent dealer history is worth paying a premium for
Swirl flaps.. If they haven't been blanked off, this needs doing
Decent matching tyres that are to BMW standard (how do I find this out)
Make sure the gearbox is shifting properly. Budget for a gearbox oil change
If there is a sunroof, check it works
Check the rear washer and wiper and for leaking washer tubes in the cabin
Check for broken front or rear springs
All advice welcome

Hi and welcome, if it's room your after, I would go for an X5, the X3 isn't that much bigger than a 5 series estate, have you got the estate now or the saloon.?
Maybe a 535d touring would be nicer to drive and pacify the family too.

Totally agree with Horizon, the X3 is based on the 3 series and once taking in the 4x4 running gear, wouldn't offer as much space as a 3 series touring. Even the X5 (E53) has a limited boot although not tiny. It certainly took me a little while to get used to when I first got my first X5 in 2003.

Thanks for the feedback. Sadly my daughter gets motion sickness, but not in anything with the extra ride height. Considered an X5 but don't really have the space for it.
