Recall - CAS Module

Post by X5Sport » Fri Jun 05, 2015 6:19 pm

Just had a call from the Dealer.  There is a warranty recall underway for a software patch to be applied to the CAS Module (Security system & anti-theft unit).

A patch was released in mid-May for an undisclosed number of versions/model years so I cannot say exactly what cars are affected, but it is probably a safe bet it will be a fair number.

Mine is a 2010 built (Model Year 2011) car.

It's going for patching in a week or so and will be back the same day...they are collecting/returning it.

Interesting - and consistent with what I've seen...

My mid-2012 E70 LCI happens to be in for its end of warranty check today (with a reasonably short list from me!), and my service rep said there was going to be a patch applied to the CAS, citing "various enhancements".  This was under a separate note on the service sheet, with its own long BMW reference.

Any more details?  I'll see if my rep knows anything specific.

Anecdotally, my CAS unit is a relatively new replacement.  The original was bricked during an attempted theft in Jan 14.

Not got any recall for my 2012 March E70, which also had the end of warranty check done.

Car staying-in overnight as the "CAS campaign update" on another vehicle took 6-7 hours, apparently  :noexpression:

Sounds like this particular SW London-based service center are only just rolling these out (pure speculation), as the duration has come as a surprise

No more info, but it is a very new campaign.
