Damaged Underside

Post by GD » Sun Jun 07, 2015 10:45 pm

Scooting along the motorway tonight in low sun and the car on the inside lane sent a piece of plastic trim into my path.  I  thought I had ripped a tyre, no such luck.  The protective underside cover for the auto transmission fluid tray was completely ripped and once off the motorway and a closer inspection at the horse yard lying in sh@t, there is what looks like a leak at the transmission fluid tray.

Called BMW and they offered to send a non BMW mechanic in 90 minutes to take me to my house 10 miles away and then to the garage in  the morning.  I was 3 miles from the BMW garage so I took cautiously it there and whilst I waited for a lift, watched fluid dribble out.  Not a lot of protection for a 4 X 4 as I found the piece of plastic and what was left wasn't that substantial.

I could cry but might be really crying in the morning when I get a price.

That's really tough luck.  Hopefully only a new auto box sump & cover needed, but that will be bad enough... :(

The covers under the car are not for protection but for aerodynamic efficiency.  Most of my X is covered but it's all pretty thin.
