Hi just purchased a m50d disks away from replacement at the moment but during negotiations on price I commented the discs were lipped and called bmw about cost of pads and discs 1600 pounds only 140 was labour.
are there any non bmw discs for this car ??? or do I need to stop braking?

Firstly....
Secondly have a look at eurocarparts. Check the disc diameter as ECP sell one made by VM which looks to be the M50d variant as it's larger. They are £150 each as against £90 for the smaller diameter ones (fronts).
Pads are around £80 per axle set.....again you need to check the exact fitting, but they seem to do more than one variant.
BMW discs are typically either Pagid or Textar and the same for the pads. Both are a diy job if you are competent.
I use Pagid pads on mine and they are fine. Discs were replaced on our 3-series with Textar and they are also fine.

I did hope there would be other options but having never seen a 50d before purchase did not realise just how big the disks are.
I would have felt gutted to be paying 400 pounds per iron disk on the front
