New Key Fob

Post by afhussain » Fri May 29, 2015 11:11 am

Hi again,

I am finding this forum really helpful, there is plenty of reading material on here.  One thing I could not find when searching was the cheapest way to get a replacement/second key.  Our car came with only one key.

I contacted BMW who want £160 for a new one.  I just wanted to know if there is a cheaper option.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds about right for the going rate

Would have assumed more to be honest

Does that include the key fob and new key?

Try a different dealer , they all seem to charge different rates for replacement keys, they come programmed to your car .

And don't forget to ask Cotswold BMW who are members on here and offer discounts to members.....as they did on the 'Land' site.

I had to buy one two years ago.  Cost £169.78 from the local BMW dealer - had to be ordered from BMW and came already programmed to the car.  I don't know of any independent suppliers!

Thanks for the advice guys.  I think I will have to bite the bullet and order one from the dealer.  Just need to wait for the V5 to come through.

Just to say that the car came with two "keys" that push into the "keyhole" beside the start/stop button.  There is also a wallet key that is a slim black "proper key" which will open the door and fits into a holder in the glove box which can then be used to start the car.  Can I suggest another check with the previous owner about the missing keys before contacting the dealer to let them what you have and what you need!
