Best tyre pressure

Post by mark hamster 28 » Sun May 17, 2015 7:02 pm

Whats the best tyre pressure to put in my E70 3.0D (09 Reg) ? Its has 20" M/Sport wheels. Normal driving is just me and the Mrs and occaisnaol shopping in boot. Dont want to go to high in pressure as im trying to make it a more comfy ride over bumpy roads BUT dont want to wear my tyres out by under inflating    O:-)

Recommended pressures are on the B-pillar, Driver's side.

I've always run my Xs at the recommended pressures and not had any wear issues.....other than the RFT types seeming to be short lived when compared to non-RFT types.  It might just be a Dunlop issue so I'm having Bridgestones put on to replace them.

I have bridgestones front and dunlops rear, all run flats. Being quite honest, dont no if im being daft or what but carnt make out what it says on the pillars as the rears are i think 315's and fronts smaller. Just dont seem right when i look at mine ? Normally it gives you 2 options, one for i think upto 3 folks then one for 5 folks and luggage. Will have a look at handbook.

2.2 bar / 32 psi all round for the 20" wheels in lightly loaded condition  :ok:

35 psi front and 40 psi rear for heavily loaded / towing IIRC

BMW's table format isn't the easiest to understand I must admit, due to there being that many different combinations I suppose  :-[

Agreed. I always ran mine at the recommended pressures - 2.2bar being spot on for both axles.

But I read somewhere else that people were over inflating their tyres to try and overcome some of the uneven wear attributes of the suspension setups. I'm no engineer but don't agree with this and never had any problems with the setup BMW has on its door card and my tyres were wearing perfectly evenly across the board by the time I sold my latest E70 - just wearing a little too quickly for my liking........but at least evenly!  :))
