BMW Insured Warranty Eeeeeeekkkkkkkkkk

Post by mark hamster 28 » Thu Apr 30, 2015 10:21 am

My warranty runs out next month and renew letters just arrived  :o

Reading other threads in the last few months i was expecting the renew price to be not quite as high as quoted.! What gets me is they give you an illustrative example of an X5 upto 50000 miles with an £100 excess for £990 which i think is reasonable for these cars BUT my car is in the 70,000 miles ( 1 prev owner and full bmw history and always had there warranty from new ) and price is now £1534...over 50% more. Was expecting it to be around £1200.

What gets me is, you would think a quality build car like BMW ( and they do like to blow there trumpets about this ) they would at least think there cars are good for at least 100,000 miles not 60,000..! So to me this reads they are expecting it to more than likely be a problem after the 60,000. Even my little Kia has 7 years warranty or upto 100,000 miles

So to me, BMW its about time you put your money where your mouth is. Despite my rant i will still be taking out there warranty for peace of mind for the next 12 months but just wondered other folks thoughts on this.

Think maybe after this warranty runs out it will be time to have another car and maybe next time i will try to get a 2 year warranty instead of a 1 years. Sure if i was about to do a deal and asked this question and they only offered 1 year, sure they would be running upto me as i'm about walking through to door.

Just stick £75 a month in the bank? How much is driveline as a matter of interest?

I agree, it's appalling how short a warranty these so called premium cars cone with.  I asked a BMW GB rep about it some years back and the answer was simple.  We don't have to because our competitors don't.  You can bet that if Audi or Merc went to 5 years then BMW would follow in an instant.

As an aside our 10 year old 3 series went in today to have an airbag replaced as part of a massive global recall.  It hasn't had a warranty for 7 years so it was a surprise to get a call telling us the job was free.  Maybe that's why the newer car type warranties are so expensive.

I think I pay nearly £90 a month for the X6 extended warranty.

And a new driveline is probably the cost of a medium mortgage!  BMW don't repair, just replace.

@Mark hamster28, I paid 1200 for an extended warranty and just had the gearbox replaced under that warranty so from my point of view has saved me some serious money,,but to put it up to 1500 from 1200 is a bit steep, tough decision next year for me then. :( :( :(

@ riggie, £1296-£0 ex,  £957- £100 ex, £747- £250 ex for driveline inc emerg ass. I was thinking of that and getting the AA warranty breakdown which ive had before which covers upto £400 with £70 ex i think but for a few hundred quid saving its not really worth it to me. My car has been in a few times this year for a sat nav fault which took them 3 times of replacing new stuff to sort and every time had a nice loan car and good service and as AHG21 said, if you need to claim on something BIG, it will save you a fortune.! I have another year left on the service plan and two years left on the Tyre and alloy insurance, so its just peace of mind for another year.! Think next year i will have the AA warranty as i will be swapping it for something else not long after its been MOT and serviced.! Hopefully it will help the sale as i will properly sell private and try to make myself a few thousand more quid than trade in.! Noticed the ones with similar mileage and proper Bmw service  hist still fetch a good price.!

@ AHG21 Its £1163 with £250 ex which is what im going to take. Was yours £250 or £100 Ex ?

I'm doing monthly payments of 60 odd quid on my 40d X5, beyond the year now and still no increase. I read on another forum that if you go monthly they don't look at increasing it and you just pay the same throughout ?

That's what mine is Mark 1260 with roadside assistance and 250 excess mileage was 65,000 when purchased, don't know if that makes any difference.

@ Barney. They offered me direct debit payments but it was only over 12 months and its £107.01 a month, so about £100 more for me. I guess your car is under 60,000 miles which is why its cheaper.

@AHG 21. Mine £1163 with £250 ex, so for some strange reason, mine is a little cheaper than yours ? or are you doing monthly payments ?

Not sure if it makes a difference but mine is a 3.0 sd so extra turbo, perhaps that could make it more expensive?
Not paying monthly Mark.
X5Sport would know, he's been really helpful with his knowledge regarding my gearbox replacement, top man.

Correct.  It stays the same year after year for as long as you keep the policy.

My 40d only has 14k on it and they still wanted a huge amount for warranty though. I have taken the view (probably will be proven wrong now) that as the mileage is so low, that if I drive 3 years without issues, I would have saved 4k which would pay for something pretty major I would imagine.
