what is this pipe

Hi

was looking for the oil pressure switch on my x5 diesel 3d

and I noticed a solid pipe next to the oil filter housing which is not connected to anything

does anyone have any ideas what this is?

pipe went towards bottom of engine

Not easy to tell from your pics, but it might be the front diff vent? Does it look like this?

X5Sport is right, that's the front diff vent pipe, supposed to be like that, nothing to worry about.
