Keyed doors :(
Keyed doors :(
Well the unfortunate has happened. Some kids probably or a jealous scrote has keyed the two passenger side doors of the X5.
Sad state of affairs, but it was parked up in an estate while visiting people. Its a newbuild estate so the roads are tight, only one way in and out of the place. Probably someone felt aggrieved by it (wifes parking...) or it was kids walking through the estate.
I'm sure its happened to others, particularly on here, so what sort of prices do you think it will be for a repaint of the side?

Re: Keyed doors :(
Feel for you mate I had it done to an old e36 I had I'm still pissed off now and that was 10 years ago,,, w#%$kers
Re: Keyed doors :(
Feel for you , I had mine done 5 days after buying it , found out later it was a grudge against someone else that used to park were I had . The biggest pain is no one is ever their to see them or step in or stop them if I had caught them we would have had a nice trip down the M6 with them duck taped to the roof .
Re: Keyed doors :(
Thanks for the sympathy guys. Not to worry though, I will just assume its kids - and lets face it, we all did things as kids that we now see as stupid and wrong. So I'm not going to get upset or angry over it.
Now on-wards and upwards - what will BMW charge me to repair the damage of the heinous act?!!

Re: Keyed doors :(
Sorry to hear of your woe, I had someone damage my e60 a few years ago when it was parked on a street near my dentists. There was a thick black stripe down one of the rear doors and the rear arch was bent in too. Looked like a plastic bumper had run along it.
Took it to my local body shop where I used to service their compressor and had seen some of the work they had done. £300 pounds later you couldn't tell it had ever been damaged.
Dealers will be more expensive, but there are some cracking body shops out there too, ask around to get recommendations.

Re: Keyed doors :(
Update:
Fixed at Ocean bmw for £600. Both doors sprayed.
Unfortunately they painted over the stone chip protection strip which looks like the sort of job a dodgy backstreet garage would do. This part is ongoing, but the scratches are gone!

Re: Keyed doors :(
That part is very poor. It is not like it was that cheap a job either !

I've had insurance and warranty jobs done by Ocean's bodyshop and cant fault them. Cant say the same about their service dept, although I've had recent duscussion with their head of business and I like his vision of the future, so I'm hoping things wil improve there. It's a hassle when they dont get it right first time, but I'm sure they'll sort it out.

Re: Keyed doors :(
Sorry to hear of this damage and hope it gets repaired properly.
I wouldn't pay until it was sorted ........Inexcusable IMO but that's me.
Re the cause of the damage this screams of someone not happy with parking. I can sympathise with decent folk who have to tolerate selfish or incompetent parking. When bad parking is done in a big car it screams of arrogance and self importance to many - even if it may genuinely just be someone driving who is not gifted at parking.
Despite the above malicious and intentional damage is criminal, wholly inappropriate and not excusable.
I appreciate malicious damage provokes anger but chances are any person bold enough to do this would have further disregard for law if in face to face conflict. I can handle myself but sometimes it is safer to count to 10 and move on rather than get ones bottom kicked by someone more physically capable, absent of self control and not carrying a moral compass.

Re: Keyed doors :(
I've paid, but was left with little choice as I needed to return to work and didnt want to burden the wife over a minor issue. To be honest its only noticeable when looking very close so unless it comes off in the next year I doubt I will chase it up.
Ocean's bodywork team appeared better than the service team, but this poor work has left me to think otherwise. The service team was ridiculous and got a review based on that as well.
I use a small garage normally for all other work and he is brilliant. I am not using BMW for anything other than the free service pack I have remaining. Which based on their attitude so far, will be a very minimal effort on their part I feel.

Re: Keyed doors :(
I can understand you needing to take the car.
I understand you are saying you will probably leave as is. That is of course a matter for you, however, just be mindful that such work will allow someone with a knowing eye to see the car has been repaired and perhaps bid down harder on a later sale or p/x price. A cautious private buyer might even reject the car unless convinced the repair was for superficial damage only....with this in mind, perhaps consider keeping the receipt and any before repair pics if you don't get it redone.

Which 'small garage' do you use? When the AUC runs out, I won't be using Ocean either.

Re: Keyed doors :(
I use a garage in Ermington. The gent that runs it is a land rover enthusiast and has the yard full of his own and other old land rovers. Its a bit out of the way and a pain to get to, but better than Ocean.
The owner has earnt my trust over the years. He is a does what it says on the tin style person and apparently has won several awards for his work.
I appreciate that Ocean might be trying to do a good job, but from what I can see they employ low wage young personnel for the customer facing and workshop duties with one or two managers sat in an office. None of them take any pride in their work and the car and service show this up.

From experience, old landrovers can be fixed with a hammer, obviously the newer ones are a lot more hi tech, more like the X5.
Assuming he's up to speed on the tech, can you PM me the details please? Thanks Andy.
