Re: Gearbox problem.
Uh oh! Might be just a glitch which will 'cure itself' with ignition off/on, otherwise could be a number of other things. I'm no expert (my X5 is in for gearbox repair as we speak!) but I would suspect something in the valve block for starters. Could be valve seals, pressure sensors, etc etc. If a reset hasn't cured, best way forward is to get diagnostics done and go from there.
By the by, is there a speed limit for using M&S mode? Not sure if you're supposed to revs the nuts off it in this mode
Hope it gets sorted...

Re: Gearbox problem.
Thank you Slimx47, had a drive in it this morning and it must of done a reset because in auto mode it changes gear at different revs but I'm away for the weekend with the x5 and haven't got the balls to try it in m/s mode again until I'm closer to home, I know I'm gutless lol
As luck would have it I have a BMW warranty so I am going to see what they say Tuesday fingers crossed for then.

Re: Gearbox problem.
If you have a warranty then get it in to a Dealer as soon as you can to get the transmission codes read. Any odd noises or strange behaviour then I would recommend you not drive it further. A small failure can lead to total destruction of the internals and you're stuck!
A ZF rebuild is not cheap, and BMW will just put a remanufactured box in.

Re: Gearbox problem.
Thank you for your reply Richard, trouble is I'm 100+ miles from home with family, I did drive it today very gently and I bow to your superior knowledge,, I didn't have any trouble but what should I do ?
I'm even more nervous now help please.

Re: Gearbox problem.
All the time it's behaving, shifting OK, no jerking and no noises just drive it gently as you have been then all will be fine.
It's not in limp mode now. Do you have recovery - only for the worst case of course. Does the BMW warranty get you home should the worst happen?

Re: Gearbox problem.
No jerking, no noises, not in limp road Richard, certainly done a reset somewhere because changes gear at lower revs or is it just me ? In the worst case scenario I think we can get recovery, one god send is the BMW dealer in Hungerford is within walking distance phew
Been along weekend and it's not Saturday yet
Many thanks Richard for your time in helping out will keep you informed.

Re: Gearbox problem.
That's what the forum is all about....
It might simply be an 'adaption reset' and it is now relearning your driving style.
Never mind the car, just enjoy the weekend

Re: Gearbox problem.
Ditto what Richard said, just keep a 'listen out' (but don't obsess) for any unusual sounds, otherwise have a good weekend!

Re: Gearbox problem.
Update, got home ok from the weekend, had fault codes read they are 4F8A, ratio monitoring gearshift 4-5,,4F85,ratio monitoring clutch E, the technician said BMW don't change clutches they change the whole gearbox .
As we speak the x5 is at BMW Hungerford we do have a comprehensive warranty, I just feel they will somehow wiggle out of saying its covered,
Watch this space, any feedback/comments,advice greatly appreciated.

Re: Gearbox problem.
Read the small print on the warranty and be ready for a fight (just in case)! If it's a comprehensive warranty then
I would expect it to be covered and you will get a remanufactured gearbox.

Re: Gearbox problem.
Only the one who did mine. A1 Premier Transmissions in Biggleswade. They were selected by Warranty Direct, and collected the car from the BMW Dealer.
Others on here have used firms that may be nearer to you. Have a search on the Forum.
Others may well chip in with firms too

Re: Gearbox problem.
Update today from Dick Lovett Hungerford, they put half a litre of ATF in and took it for a test drive and said fault hasn't reappeared, although the service guy I'm in contact with said, he wouldn't have thought the ATF was sufficiently low to cause the fault.
They will take it for another test tomorrow morning and see if the fault reappears, fingers crossed.
Any help,information/comments appreciated
Tony.
