Remote Keyless Engine Start....
Soe time ago I had a Toyota Land Cruiser...
And I managed to get one of the keyless engine start modules for it...
It enabled you to start the vehicle remotely or by clock timer, so that the vehicle was nicely warm & defrosted when you got in it...
All I had to do was set the blowers to Screen & Hot before I left it at night... and it would start & warm up nicely 15 mins before I drove to work on frosty mornings.
The modules to enable this were removed or Not fitted for UK import due to some bullsh*t legislation here ... so you'd get them from ebay or some where...
So, my question is.... does the Japanese market have this module in X5's... or any one know if the UK X5 can be made to remote start...
.... which would make frosty morning ice covered screens a none issue...?
Penny for your thoughts...

It's not ..."some bullsh*t legislation here "...Last thing i need is neighbour warming his car up at 5am  In Europe its called Webasto...
Re: Remote Keyless Engine Start....
You can fit a webasto to time to warm the interior etc up before getting in. You can however retrofit remote engine start using the likes of a Clifford add on. I was planning to do this to mine but never got round to it.

Clifford Add-On...
Sounds promising...
Any info on this, what the item is called & maybe where to get one would be good, and I'll donsome searching.
Fortunately we have not had many hard frosts here in Wiltshire this season... but it could still change... and im working more in the North Counties these days where its a little cooler, so it would be helpful to clear screans etc before work...
Regards & thanks.

Re: Remote Keyless Engine Start....
It's not fitted to UK or EU cars any longer as it is no longer legal and therefore a breach of type approval. Leaving a car unnattended with the engine running causes insurers to have apoplexy too )
There are kits as you say - Clifford being one - and you will need to tell your insurers as well. Although few cows have learned to drive - well the bovine type anyway.....so not so much of an issue for you

Re: Remote Keyless Engine Start....
just done some looking up on the Clifford Intelli-start systems..
The issue of theft isn't an issue, as the steering lock would still be on, and the alarm is also on, and nothing works at all without the keys in the ignition also.... so the vehicle is pretty much secure... and the owner is wide awake because he started the vehicle and will be coming out to it any moment...
so in my book, ......... any one trying to steal it would be better off doing it in the dead of night, and take their time to break in and drive it way silently...
I've seen a couple of intelli-start systems on ebay (unfitted but a yr old), but cannot see the remotes in the item sale, so I'm a bit wary of getting a kit with bits missing...

Re: Remote Keyless Engine Start....
The Clifford Intelli-start unit is a sub part of a Clifford alarm system, so its no use on its own..
Will have to look at other options for remote starting ..

Re: Remote Keyless Engine Start....
why not just have aux heater enabled on a Webasto instead of actually running the engine?
Re: Remote Keyless Engine Start....
As above, the intelli-start keeps the alarm activated and doors are still locked. The idea is also that when the alarm goes off if someone smashes the window or something then the engine cuts out.
Also it can be added as a standalone system but does need some very technical knowhow.

Re: Remote Keyless Engine Start....
Hi there,
I have enabled my Webasto via a GSM controller, so I can turn on my heater from anywhere via my mobile phone.
Its an easy soloution, and quite cheap at about £60. And maybe 15 mins to fit it.
This makes my car nice and toastie without being illegal....
Have fun, Richie.

Hi Richie,
This sounds like what I need...
So you have any more information on this device,
and also in one that makes the car cool for summer use, guessing the engine has to run with AC powered up...
any thing that does this... as the Clifford units only work as part of the alarm system.
