Post by martyp1001 » Mon Mar 23, 2015 9:18 pm

Just make sure you have cleaned all glue off the old ribbon from contacts. I used nail polish remover on cotton buds and made sure they were very clean...  Also difficult for to explain why but when trying to attach new ribbon to led screen make sure you have it pressed up against ledge and use small strips of tape starting from middle working outwards either side.. when fixing tape I made sure to use back of my precision knife to push tape up against the small ledge on led screen to ensure i made the best contact..  if you don't do this you will not have a good contact and the tape will do the opposite and try and lift ribbon away from the contacts if you get what I mean..  It's a slow process but just make sure you do that part right and you should be fine...  If you havent bought ribbon yet just buy one for couple pound off ebay and there is helpful video on youtube..

Thanks mate, my ribbon came with an instruction guide that sounds very similar to what you're describing. I'm waiting for an evening of no distractions before attempting it!

Also I taped down the padding when fitting back together to make sure it stayed in the right place to do its job..  all will come clear when your doing it... Good luck :)

Follow the instructions to the letter and take you time, took me 5 attempts to do mine, and I'm good at that sort of thing- at least I thought I was! ;-) I had to split my ribbon in the centre as there's no way it would line up with the contacts on my display or PCB. Almost as if I had a metric PCB and an imperial replacement ribbon!

Guys, I've successfully swapped out the ribbon cable and all is great.....except now I've lost the bloody radio knob :-[ In the very likely case that the missus has chucked it out, does anyone know of a suitable replacement? I've looked on ebay and they are either a stupidly high price or being sold as part of the whole radio.

Bugger!
Try somewhere like Maplin or a music shop, ebay etc as I think they are a standard type spline fitment, similar to old car stereos and guitar volume/tone knobs...

Think Maplins might be my best bet as at least I can take it back if it doesnt fit, cheers.
