My 2012 40d is coming to the end of its warranty and the thread about drive shaft wear got me thinking, what should i be looking out for in its last free visit to the garage?
So far I've got:
Wheel corrosion.
Drive shaft/wheel bearing noise during coasting.
Clunk engaging D or R (not sure if this may be normal).
Centre console storage unit does not close properly.
Suspension pump running every time vehicle is started (almost every time at least).
Poor performance on auto wipers - is this adjustable?

Just had mine done three weeks ago but already ID'ed the corroded wheels 10 months ago (They just arrived at BMW dealer). Nothing else to report or reported back so guess all okay. I'd identify all you listed until your satisfied

X5 4 D worries,
It appears im not the only 4D owner with the same issues, gearbox noise on coasting at motorway speeds, and a clonk when parking ,ie selecting D or R whilst parking , jolts the vehicle !! 23,000 miles and full service pack and history.!
oh and while im moaning the 20 " wheels are corroded at the centre hubs and BMW want £ 600 to swap all four, as the car is 2011. ( They were like that in 2013 ? )
Let me know if anyone gets a main dealer to identify the overrun noise as my local dealers cant try a car out at 70 - 80mph !

To be fair, these possible gearbox issues may be totally normal for the car. Its only done 25k miles i think so not massive. But I will ask that they are checked on warranty befor it runs out.
If I knew that the noise would continue and not cause any issue for the life of the car then I wouldnt be bothered. But I'm not a BMW gearbox expert and just want to get best value for money out of the warranty.
