Parking Sensors Acting Up

Post by hmpmarketing » Sun Mar 22, 2015 10:43 am

Hi guys,

Couple weeks ago took the car for a wash (those where you drive in) and panicked a little bit when was already inside the damm thing, sensors beeping like crazy and I forgot to press the button where you can turn them off (stupid me, put my hands on my ears as it was so noisy inside!!!! :)) ). After this I started running into issues with PDC.

Im now getting a PDF failure warning and sensors don't work, although there are times where it works just fine (all sensors). I think there is probably on acting up and since they are all inter-connected (thats what I read) the "Bad one" is basically disabling the whole system. Cameras all work fine, and as I said, there are times where all sensors work and no warning!

Anyone have had this happened before or should i just take to BMW to take a look? What costs should I expect to get it sorted? By the way I have extended warranty, not sure if this is covered under it?

Thanks again

I had the same problem last summer on my E70 (2007 manufacture).  First I'd check to see if your warranty covers them.

I no longer have warranty so I took the car to an independent auto electrician who does my air con.  His Bosch diagnostic  device showed the outer offside front was faulty so to check he swapped it with the nearside front and the gadget showed the fault there.  He couldn't immediately get a new one from another source so he put a BMW one in.  Very occasionally over this winter, when the front was coated with salt spray, the offside front went off when reverse selected, but washing the car stopped the fault.  It hasn't happened for the past month - no salt on the roads.  I believe there is a rubber washer/locating ring inside which has to be fitted snugly so next time I'm there I'll ask him to check. Price was about half the BMW cost because his labour charges are a lot less and it took less than an hour - I'd hardly had time to finish a cup of coffee!!

Just to say now there's no more salt being put down I've not had any more trouble.  Maybe next winter....

Best wishes,

Graeme
