There was an issue some time back with cracked wheels but I though it had been fixed.  This is several years ago when the RFT tyres were first being fitted.  More recent issues are with the lacquer peeling rather than fatigue faults.  Potholes can and will cause cracking and BMW now check for runout on the rims as a way of finding road damage as against a manufacturing fault.

I've got 20" 214s and they are fine BTW.

Thanks for that Richard.
Incidentally one cracking rim issue that I recall about 4 years ago involved BMW and Bridgestone with ultra low profile tyres fitted as part of the sports pack either on 3 or 5 series. It was discussed on BBC Watchdog at the time.
There was also an uneven wear issue as well, I saw several racks of tyres returned under claim which were hardly worn, only 2-4000 mls, but inside shoulder completely worn out, but the issue was with the OE front suspension set up when fitting these wheels.

Still waiting - it will be a year in May  :o I tried to get a different wheel from BMW UK but it's like for like.  Anyone got any updates?  Rang my local BMW dealer and keep getting still on backlog.  How are the replacements holding up for those lucky or maybe unlucky drivers that have them?

Cheers

BMW offered me the 336 wheel as a direct replacement as the 333 are still on a 10 month back order - got them 3 weeks ago......

My X5 is a 60 plate 40d which i bought in October from Bmw with a 1 year warranty. I got in contact with them because all 4 wheels have started to corrode and they said that it isn't covered by warranty because the 3 years manufacture warranty has expired and the approved used warranty does not cover it. However they asked me to take a picture of the logbook and the mileage of the car and they sent a good will request to Bmw earlier this week.

The warranty administrator at the Bmw dealership got in contact with me today saying that i have been successful and Bmw will pay for 4 new wheels however i will have to pay for the labour to change them over. He said he would order them but there could be a 2/3 month back order. Will the new wheels corrode again or have the changed the manufacture ?

Cheers

I heard the replacement alloys are of better quality and durability hopefully they will last longer!

If they've got diamond turned, laquered faces then they will always corrode eventually IMO.
I think the issue is that this type of finish doesn't allow for a decent radius on the edges, as a result the thickness of the laquer is minimal in this area and makes it prone to chips and breaking down therefore allowing moisture under it.

I had an Audi for 4 years with diamond cuts wheels and they never corroded. The replacement 333m will have a 2 year warranty so if its starts again they will be going straight back.

Good luck, great to hear about the Audi wheels, I've owned several makes with diamond turned that have all gone bad and claimed, wouldn't bother again as the process is flawed imo.
Diamond turned is a bit chavvy these days anyway so I'm happy with fully painted/powder coated myself.

Wasn't aware diamond cut was chavvy!?!?

Indeed some non std colours on an X look more chavvy than factory diamond cut

I too have never had problems with two audis and one porsche with diamond cut wheels

BMW just can't get it right having had big problems with the E46 M3 and now X5s
Currently :
2012 Audi RS4 (B8)
2012 Porsche Boxster S (981)
2008 Lotus Exige S (a bit modified!)

2008 BMW X5 3.0sd MSport
2005 BMW 535d MSport
