no tv or cd

just got x5 sport 03plate with wide screen sat nav works and radio ok but when i search tv stations screen fizzes along but no channels found were are the aerials fitted also cd in boot missing but found dvd manual with books i recived just wondered if its got dvd how would i select it on unit ??

Hi Pinky, unless your 03 X is one of the early face lifts,(only a few of the 03 models were) it is in all likelihood a pre-facelift model. The TV Tuner will be analog and if your local area has changed to digital, you won't get a signal at all, I'm afraid. It should still work for a while in areas with analog signals.Aerial in in the boot I think, near all the other audio stuff.

The CD player may have been removed by previous owner to allow use of an Ipod compatible device like an Intravee, which was removed before sale - you can replace the CD changer by getting a used one off ebay if you like, or look for the ipod alternative connection (lots of guys on here with lots of info about this). Can you see the CD changers plugs in the rear boot where it should be installed?

When you say DVD manual what is this? A BMW manual? Or a manual for say a Sony or similar player? A DVD player may be installed under the passeger seat in place of the first aid box, or in the glove box......have a hunt around the car......and are there rear screens in the headrests perhaps???
The DVD player would have been added aftermarket, as it was never an option. You can select AV on the Nav screen which would allow a DVD player to play through it; check this for the TV option as well in case you have been searching channels with AV selected instead of TV.

thanks for that . chinese dvd manual,no screens, as you say ill have a butchers around how do i get the av on the head unit ,whats the cheapest digi tv available??

BMW digital tv unit very pricey and not worth the bucks is the general opinion - costs around Â£600 if you can find one! Most ebay units are analog as people want to dump them. Digital units work really well if you are in a perfect reception area, and not at all if you aren't........ Or You can fit a small 12v digibox, some have done this much cheaper than OEM.
TV controls via the knobs and switches next to the screen - the ones on the right side, as I recall - you get the scanning menu up then change source via the large dial on the right side. Prev owner may have taken the dvd player, but hunt around under the seats....you may get lucky!!

looked in boot today and found 1 large plug with ether 10 or 12 round pins plug is this the cd changer plug?? below dvd satnav

found the 2 connectors and fitted cd from mini cooper s all worked but cannot get sound also when i got to tv on head unit it alwasy seems to say mute cannot change this?? radiosatnav cassete works good

TV will show the mute message if the signal is very poor - you can't change it if this is the case until the signal is strong enough; your car likely has an analog tuner and if there is no analogue signal in your area, this is what will happen. The aerial may also be detached or faulty. Check connections in the boot.

If it is saying mute you are probably on the av chanel which if not connected to anything will only display mute with a black screen.Try changing the chanel and then even if you have an analoge tv module you will get a fuzzy screen on any of the other chanels.That is if the analogue has been switched of in your area of course.
In my area we went digital yonks ago so i have no tv signal

but i do get plenty of flies to look at

cheers guys ive just bought one of those av leads off ebay as ive got a dvd player and a digi tv box are these reasonably to fit? when i search tv i get the fuzzy screen so i think aerial prob as we still get anologe tv ere i take it ill have to fit a booster + new aerial to get digi tv (this lead)>> http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ...
