Nest Heating Thermostat ( just ordered ).

Post by kjb1 » Mon Mar 16, 2015 9:06 pm

Anyone else have one?  Ive recently moved house, out to the sticks and off the grid in terms of Mains gas supply.  I have Oil Fired Heating and its set via a Mechanical timer on the Boiler, really coarse way of doing things, and highly inefficient, as not stat controlled.

So.......have been looking for solutions to change this, and my money, all £179 of it, has gone on this:

https://nest.com/uk/support/thermostat/

Its made by Apple Ex employee's and you can really tell.  Plus points:

It is intelligent and is constantly "learning"

The user interface is ultra slick

It looks good

It saves heating bills

It is smart phone controlled

You tell it the area post code and it alters itself based on local weather reports ( its wifi ).

Should be arriving tomorrow, and will be installing straight away.  Already been and bought 4 core and earth cable to wire up the receiver to my boiler, trunking bought to tidy it up, and been into boiler wiring to see what I am effectively linking out to fit this.  All ready to go.

Anyone also nesting? [emoji1]

good review here:

So now you're going to let Google run ads on your heating eh..... >:D

They bought Nest a couple of years back.  I think voice commands (via Android?) were also enabled last year.  Better make sure you're not talking loudly nearby, or it'll report back..... :))

It's probably better than the 'Hive' though.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

I hope you have a direct pipeline installed.....

Thermostat arrived yesterday finally!!! Anyhow all fitted, and overall its a fantastic piece of kit! who knew thermostats could be so slick.  The apps on phone are perfect for seeing current temps, and turning heating on etc remotely, and the stat itself feels and looks like a very high end product.

The stat even receives local weather reports via the internet And adjusts accordingly.  Well worth the money.
