BMW Extended Warranty...Should I bother
Re: BMW Extended Warranty...Should I bother
I've just posted on another thread about my situation with a 3rd party warranty. I'd definitely extend for peace of mind, especially at 56k miles. I would think carefully about buying 3rd party as I got burnt.

Ash,
How did you get burnt? I just took a policy with Warranty Direct and seemed a better plan that BMW offered and was 268 pounds a year cheaper
Cheers

Re: BMW Extended Warranty...Should I bother
WD were fine with my E53 gearbox, but when the fuel pump relay failed it took a long time for the dealer to find the problem (no error codes are triggered by the failure) and they refused to pay for any of the diagnostic work. We got billed over £210 for a £10 part.
It's the diagnostics bit that you need to watch for, plus a lot of items are not covered - such as the ICE/Phone/Nav modules to name a couple. BMW do cover those items. The small print is critical on these policies. There is a reason why they are cheaper, it's the limitations that seem unimportant until you suffer a fault where they become very important and costly.
When I later cancelled the policy just under halfway through its year, WD charged a 30% fee ON TOP of the 'admin charge' which meant I got none of the £400 policy cost back.
In my book, that was being burned!

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

if it is a difference of only a few hundred £££ then go for the BMW every time IMO. I have never had any claim turned down, and had a nice BMW to drive while my car was being repaired
