Leak from valley pan rear hose.

Just in the process of trying to sort out this problem. Is there any online resources for part numbers and service manual? Or where can I get them? Is it best to get parts from the dealers or is there a recommended place for oem quality replacements?

Parts list is Realoem.com.  Copy of the BMW parts database.  If you enter the last 7 characters of your VIN into the 'Serial Number' box it will bring up the right car for you.

Service Manuals are a bit of a challenge as the only one published is the 'Bentley' manual which is for US models.

You may be lucky and find an on line service manual however BMW are very good at getting them taken down as unauthorised!  See if this site gives you what you need.

There is quite a lot of info on other sites re valley pan gasket and coolant pipe replacement on valvetronic V8 engines. I believe there is an aftermarket expandable pipe available from USA. Google should give you some useful info. Labour time is significant even for someone with all tools and relevant experience.

Not saying valvetronic engines are fragile albeit such issues tend to challenge the view some hold thang the valvetronic engines are more durable of the V8's.

That looks like the M62 engine, what year is your X5 ? I think the expandable " Bimmerpipe " is for the N62 engines.
Or I could be horribly wrong :-[

The expandable pipe is for the N62 engines. There are a couple out the from the likes of all german autos, etc.

Not sure on M62. I do believe it's an expensive job though.

I've just replaced the two breather suction pipes at the rear of the M62 V8, cost £47.36 from Cotswold Gloucester.
Part Nos : B11.15.7.556.837      £ 21 29
                B11.15.7.556.838      £18.18.
                                              plus vat £7.89 

The old pipes were really manky and were collapsing under suction.

The ccv is exactly the same apart from that one corner. Mine has 2 pipes coming off and the one I got has one. I have to wait till Tuesday for correct part!

All back together but struggling to start. Engine turns over but runs very rough and stalls. Some back firing/popping. Checked all connections are on and no pipes left off. All looks ok. Wonder if one bank is not getting a spark. I'm going to have to maybe test the loom and coils see if I can find the problem. 

Anyone know what the voltage needs to be on the coils?

Any other ideas?

Took apart again and refit inlet manifold and now all sorted. Must have been a leak on the gasket. Thank goodness it's sorted although I managed it in a morning when the first time took me all day!

Now just the front ball joints to replace!
