fuel injection warning

Post by TimX5 » Sat Feb 07, 2015 5:37 pm

2006 3.0d , Got fuel injection warning light came up on the dash  today when I booted the car away from a junction , seemed to drive as normal afterwards , no power loss , pulled over and  stopped the engine half a mile up the road and restarted and no warning light.
Is it worth changing the filter first or get the code read .

2012 Porsche Boxster S (981)
2008 Lotus Exige S (a bit modified!)
2015 Nissan Leaf twin turbo with Nitros

Previously :
2008 BMW X5 3.0sd MSport
2005 BMW 535d MSport

I've been out in the car today and booted a couple of times but the warning light never came on  , so I'm gonna get the code read on the next couple of days and see what's happening.

Agree with 'Sprintman' i had the same issue and i left it as it came on every now and then. Them it got worse and the car would randomly jolt and lose power until it came to a stop. Changed fuel filter and issue was solved. I found that the codes never specifically said the issue was the fuel filter. so worth changing it anyway as it is only around £20.

Cheers for that , although the car has a bmw  service history I wouldn't trust them as far as I could chuck em lol , I'll change the filter at the weekend and get the codes checked my brother has diagnostic equipment.

Not had chance to change the filter yet but I think it's got worse , booted it tonight,  injection warning light came on then loss of power and cut out , engine started up straight away though.

Fuel filter is supposed to be changed every second (or third) oil service, I remember that they changed it on my 05 3.0d.

Hi Guys, after some help, I too have the dreaded warning message on my x5 3.0d 2005, I have today changed the dreaded fuel filter with much cussing and stress,!! I still have the warning message on dash, do I need to read/erase fault ? if not what other fault could it be, I too had similar issue, car drives ok went to give the car a bit of acceleration and the warning light came on and has stayed on, car still drives fine after filter change, any help much appreciated!!

The fuel injection warning light  went out on mine after stopping the engine and restarting even with the old filter on , chances are there's another fault  if you get the codes read , mine came up as low fuel pressure.
