iPod lead?

Post by Winter20vt » Fri Feb 27, 2015 8:48 pm

I have the factory headunit in my 2006 X5, it has an old style iPod lead connected through the glove box, I have the iPhone 5s before for I go pulling out the headunit can anyone tell me if the back of the headunit takes a USB connection for the lead or is it a lead that I will have to go out and buy? Hopefully that makes sense. It's killing me having to listen to the radio! (For some reason the 6 disc CD changer is missing  :noexpression: )

Thanks

iPod lead? You mean you have a connection that goes into the headphone socket on your phone/iPod?

Then it's an aux cable connected behind the unit to the wiring loom and not the headunit itself (which has no USB connection btw). You have a 2006 car with a headunit almost 10 years old in tech.

It's an iPod cable mate that's connected to the back of the headunit (not sure how until I take the headunit out) but the lead comes through into the glove box, the end of the cable plugs into where you charge the phone, not the headphone port. Will get a picture up tomorrow  :)

If I'm reading this right, all you need is an adapter that goes from the old-style 30 pin iPod connector to the lightening connector that will plug into the iPhone5. These £25 from most mobile phone shops, Curry's, PC World, Argos etc. I wouldn't go for a cheap one, the genuine ones are £25. Not sure if the head unit will be compatible with iOS 7/8 though?

You have got it Dr C! I tried a cheap converter from ebay, only a few quid but it didn't even recognise the phone was connected, now popping I to the city so will go to apple and see if a genuine converter works :)

hi... i did [plus a lot of other on this forum] set one up in my X5 with 30pin lead connected to the AUX input. all fine albeit audio levels are fairly low compared to CD/Radio levels etc. Plus the fat that if you want lightning connector you'll need another adapter...

my suggestion would be to drop in to one of prof. audio shops and discuss your requirements as they have no. of diff. solution  depending on your needs and budgets.

Remember to turn the iPod volume output to maximum as this seems to affect the audio level though an external system too.

Depending on the info given there was a retrofit kit for e53,46 etc that had a genuine iPod kit, when fitted if I rem correctly the kit replaces the cd changer which would indicate the fact it's removed from your car

I've got a lead like Sanj mentioned on mine.
I plugs into the AUX socket on the back of the Head Unit and then into the headfones socket on the iFone.
Works OK except volume is a bit lower than usual sources.

I have a connect2 in my car-with this you remove the 6 cd changer and is replaced with a small unit which plugs into the original cd plugs , you then run a lead to your I phone  etc  which could be in the glove box( mine is in the front ash tray) and then you control your I phone or whatever plugs into it just like you would with your cd player-I have an I-pod which has all the music I want on it and I just leave it plugged in all the time works well and suits me fine! also charges the I pod or even my I- phone
My other car is the wife's mini dooper( it must be mine all she does is drive it!)

I have this lead in my car, is this definately what happens to the cd autochanger? As I have no cd changer in the boot of mine.  Was looking at buying one off eBay as my car is autochanger ready? But if the ipod/iphone connector is connected where the cd is suppose to be
