Lead near steering wheel, aux in maybe?

Post by Phil D » Tue Jan 04, 2011 4:20 pm

Does anyone recognise this lead, I suppose it could be an aux in. It seems to have a threaded part to it.

that does look like the back end of an aux in cable.
connect an mp3 player to it via the headphone socket and press the mode button on the stereo until aux is displayed to test it.

If it is the Aux in, it should be running to the glove box. OEM installation was to the right rear lower corner of it. See if there's a hole there too.

Not being OEM, it could be anything I suppose. The Aux would indeed be in the glove box and if it was Aux, it would show up on the radio as being available.

My guess is relating to a phone. Do you have the BT in the car?

Haven't got a scooby!

Not OEM as others have already stated. Would be good to trace back though. Find out what's at the other end...

Quick easy check. If you can plug a set of headphones in then it's likely the aux socket. It didnt necessarily have to be fitted in the glovebox. Only bmws recommendation.

Found out - that's the aux lead. Plug anything in there and sound should come through your speakers...

OEM but you have to buy it from parts afterwards...

See pic number 11 in this thread:

You're just missing the facia plate.

Ah that's great news, thanks Sanj !

Was a bit scared about frying my iphone, so was going to try my wife's first

Think i'll have a look at repositioning it, maybe in the ash tray.
