Cabin temperature out of control..

Post by X5-D-Sport » Sat Feb 21, 2015 8:33 pm

New problem...
The internal cabin temp is either sweltering or... sweltering.... or tepid...

Just fitted a new engine thermostat & have a decent water temp now at half way across the dial instead of 20%...

Is there an internal temp sensor that the electronic settings measure against ?
At the moment, even with sub zero temps / 1 or 2 degrees externally, the interior is toasting if dash setting controls are 17' or above.

Previously, setting to 20' with air con "on" to de-humidify was good and stable cabin temperature, but now the air con does not chill, but does remove humidity...

Any thoughts ??

Check the position of the roller in the centre upper dash.  If it's not in the neutral, centre'white' bar position (no red or blue dots) then it will override the a/c settings.

Is your a/c running properly, ie you can cycle it right down to 16C and the car gets cold, or up to 32C and it gets hot again?  Is your a/c gas level OK?  That might also affect the temp if there is no cooling function to mix with the warm air.

Hi Richard... re the roller position at Centre dash...

12.30  night time... damned freezing outside,  but had to have a peek...and sew where this roller knob was set.

It does not have a white centre position bar marking.... but when centralised.. both Red & Blue dots are visible at each side of the roller knob thingy...
So, set it at the MID position...  will see what happens when I zip out for a drive in the morning some time..

Well Richard... an update.
The thermostat changed gives a little more power and a marginally sharper response with the engine at proper temp & needle in the middle of the gauge, as opposed to near cold !

The much higher air/heater as a result too...
Set the dash roller knob centrally...

Just driven Salisbury to Luton (for my sins) and the temp stabilised where by i set it at 18' and comfortable temp achieved.

I think the Air-Con needs re-gassing as it makes no temp difference what so ever if on or off !

Will get this looked at next week.

Meanwhile, enjoying the summery T shirt weather & having a nice BBQ later..... NOT... lol
