Re: Radio Pixel strip
I understand this is a popular problem....
Where a vertical green line appears on the right...
Pixels fail in clusters on the display and appear to grow....
Ive had one of these units apart... and it appears that the pixels are fine, its the connection across the LCS that fails... and then the whole thing eventually dies a bit at a time...
Mine just has a few small blocks of dead pixels so far, and will look at it properly some time I guess
Any way, for an obscene amout of approx £160 per display panel, you can buy the repair part from ebay...
But fitting it is fiddley and tedious.... and precision is required.
Personally i enjoy fiddling, but would NOT recommend this to any one who is not VERY good at miniaturw assembly work or with significant experience at say mobile fone repairs.
Very small tools required , and a spotless work area needed.
Im going to be doing mine some time, so maybe do yours too at the same time ?
Private mail me... and see what we can arrange ?
Regards

Re: Radio Pixel strip
I've just bought my first X5 and seem to have the same issues with pixelated screen, below the cd unit.
It would seem you can get the pixel ribbons for around £10-£20. There is also someone offering to do the whole job for £130 on the 'bay-of-e'.
Looking at the options, I'm considering just buying an all singing, all dancing DVD, GPS, MP3 stereo for around two hundred pounds!

Re: Radio Pixel strip
Storm..
Do you mean the LCD display (Screen), or the MID (Radio module below CD / Tape player)
If first then see Grants reply.
If second see Jos reply.
Jo..
The only thing with doing the change is that you lose the OBC stuff.
Clock & Date set, Consumption reset etc..
There are many a post on the ribbon changes, and a bod called Rudi in the south does them.
Do a search and you shall find.

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Thanks for the tip Steamy.
Am I right in thinking that the info can still be viewed below the speedo area?
Although, even that's a bit pixelated on mine too!

Yes it can be viewed there, but you cannot reset it unless you relocate the MID unit elsewhere.

Re: Radio Pixel strip
I have done the MID and the dash on mine.
Its not that hard but you do need to take care as there are fiddely bits.

Hi Jo,
If you can buy LCD screens for an E53 for £10 or £20... get me 20 of them, & i will make a small fortune....

Hmmm, I believe I may have got my repair ribbons and the actual LCD pricing a little muddled.
