warped discs
warped discs
Are warped discs an MOT fail and does continued driving with them cause any resultant problems with other components?

Re: warped discs
and if the pads have decent mileage left on them can they be re-used or is it best to replace pads that have used with warped discs .... ?

Re: warped discs
Are you certain its warped disc's the front bushes can cause/allow vibration under braking. If it is the disc's and its causing vibration all the time then I would think eventually it will cause other problems, if you have to change them for the little extra I would change the pads as well.

Re: warped discs
If your changing the discs you should always replace the pads aswell!
Discs and pads off ebay or a motor factor aren't expensive anyway!

I have found that the inexpensive discs and pads from a motor factor or ebay are the biggest reason for experiencing warped discs in the first place!
Buy decent, buy once!

Re: warped discs
Guys , thanks for the replies but we are deviating off the question asked. Im not asking which type of pads or discs to use.
To the earlier response , no Im not 100% sure it's the discs (there is absolutely no feedback through the brake pedal - it is all through the steering wheel but its a hell of a judder (tyres ok and wheels balanced, thrust contol arm bushes done about 5k ago) - it been getting worse over the last few weeks.

Re: warped discs
If the tyres and wheels are OK. Is the vibration constant? Or does it come at certain speeds? Have you checked/or had the discs checked for warping? I would get the bushes checked again, even new parts can fail prematurely. Also a drive shaft can cause vibration are they OK.

Re: warped discs
The vibration comes on only when braking and really only at above 40mph.
I have been to two garages and so far both have said they did not have the equipment to definitively check the discs for warp

Re: warped discs
Jack up the car take off the wheel clamp a bit of stiff wire to the suspension somewhere so it is close to touching the disc and spin the disc you will soon see any run-out, they don't have the equipment!!!!! They probably mean a dial gauge but if they can't check without your safer not going there.
Vibration when braking my bet is suspension bushes.

Have you checked the calipers? Sounds like the problem i was having which turned out to be a seizing caliper.

Re: warped discs
My money's on thrust arm bush(es).
Even if they were only replaced 5k ago I'd get em checked again. When replacing them they supposed to be 'torqued up' under load i.e. not jacked up. If this isn't done the bush(es) can get torqued up twisted and can go really quickly.

Sorry guys you're all wrong not bushes or callipers. I bit the dust and replaced - problem gone. I did get 125,000 miles out the front discs so suppose I can't complain ......
