iDrive Software Updates

Post by dobbor1 » Tue Feb 10, 2015 1:50 pm

I presume the iDrive system updates off the BMW website via myBMW are easy enough to do off a USB stick?

Thanks for that.  Have been looking tonight and managed to see the update on the BMW site.  I have downloaded it ready onto a stick, looks pretty straight forward.  Just need the car now which I don't pick up until the 20th Feb.  Have you only just bought your E70?

Yep, from Coopers BMW.  Looking forward to owning one although I will miss my E53. Been a great car.

Just updated mine and when playing around in the UK BMW Connected Drive website was able to configure email onto the car too.... :D

I can now read emails and reply with predetermined blocks of text (which I write and store on the Connected Drive System.  It supports GMail, Outlook.com and your own ISP provided email system.  You will need to know your server and port details for this.

You do also need to have the following on the car when built.  'Extended On line services'.  'internet Access'.  You also must have a current BMW Assist subscription.

This service appears to be something new as until now I have not had this facility.  Don't expect fast data or fancy downloads as it goes through the BMW Online Portal which runs on EDGE not 3/4G.  Full email was and AFAIK still is only a Blackberry supported utility LCI E70's and >MY2011 E71's.

You need to work your way through various menus to add an application that covers the email.  This will initially cause an 'Internal Error' as the CIC iDrive needs to reboot.  Still playing with mine but it seems to work.

Yea EDGE is slow as cold molasses

I played with email on mine too, however the previous owner's sub expired on the 7th (he let me use his until V5 arrived). I  will be signing up on the site today with my own credentials.

Do you have the BMW Apps menu when you plug your phone (iPhone)? I tried before having Spotify installed on my phone but somehow the BMW Apps menu never showed up. Internet access and other things were working fine

No, mine predates the BMW Apps (SA6NR) facility by a couple of weeks.  It needs speccing at build along with 6NF and 6 NL.  Now it's all included in the 'Comms Pack' but it wasn't when mine went to build.  I got one of the first Combox equipped cars that were supposedly never going to need extra hardware because it was all software driven.  Total BS and there 4 or 5 versions of the Combox now.
