comfort access

When I took delivery of my car from BMW (approved) the drivers door wouldn't work the comfort access (locking/unlocking). After going mental at BMW for not spotting something so obvious during 200 odd car checks, prior to me finding the issue within seconds of getting the car, a new handle was ordered and eventually after many weeks waiting for it to be delivered - fitted and fixed.

Roll on a year (car is now out of warranty) and a rear passenger handle has the same fault.  So that's a 50% failure rate on the car!

I'm not holding much breath on it being fixed by the dealer for free - although the car is booked in next week to get the rear bumper (which has developed the warping of the top edge) fixed for free.

Anyone else with comfort access had/having similar issues?

I did have the odd time when it wouldn't lock.  So I found myself getting the habit of ensuring it had worked as I didn't have full trust in the system.

My new car, a Nissan Leaf has it as standard on all models, so will be interesting to see how reliable it is on a non premium brand.

Okay, I do realise that it's unlikely that they will be high on the must steal list.

If fuel goes up again, then everyone will want one....

Definitely be interesting to see what the next generation ones are like.  I still think Hydrogen fuel cells are the way to go, but they are still too far off in the future despite Honda's attempt in the US and BMW playing with the idea some years back.

I have to say I like it on the Audi, wasn't available on the porsche then but is now annoyingly!!

And Skoda's have it too.  What does it actually do?  Allow you to keep the key in your pocket and it unlocks as you approach, reads the key and allows you to start the car, and locks it when you walk away?  What's the typical range?

You have to be right by the car for it to work for security issues obviously

Maybe I'll add it to the new car I might order if/when I finally get the new job.  Keeping the X6 but need something cheaper to commute with, and it's too far for the Leaf.

BMW replaced rear bumper for free.

Waiting to hear if they will replace handle as a good will gesture (given the car is out of warranty).

Waiting for car to be delivered back.

To be honest, it's another way of being lazy, but given that most, if not all BMWs now come with a start stop button, seems pointless having to dig out keys only to put them away again as they are not needed physically.  I had comfort access on the X5 and then when I got the 5 Series I did regret not getting it again, but at over £500 pounds it's stupidly priced.

Will have to live with it not working

I find it useful not trying to find keys in pockets or when holding out little one in one arm with shopping etc.
