Bit of a weird one this...
Had to get a battery today for the wife's x. Car was sat powerless for around 4 hours.
New one in, fired her up and set off for a stint up the a1 and back. As usual put my foot down a bit to join the motorway and I nearly s&&& myself the car absolutely took off like a rocket.
In the time we've had it it's never delivered power like that, neither did my (recently) written off x.
Anyone experienced anything similar? The difference really is huge.
Oh, car is a facelift e53 4.4

Re: Bit of a weird one this...
Probably lost the learnt driving style data and has reset to default.
It will take a few miles to confuse it again.....!

Driving style data ey. Does the data include some sort of mapping for fuel/valve timings etc? Or is it just the gearbox. I've only seen a jump like this in previous cars that I've had mapped.
Also judging by your reply I take it were going to lose this temporary smile fest?

Well if it was down to that, and it is temporary, you could disconnect the battery again to re-set. Equally, if it is that, then keep driving with heavy boots so it learns that style ,,,,,
Re: Bit of a weird one this...
You can reset it by holding the throttle down on position 1 ignition. There's info on YouTube about it. Quite easy to do.

Just gearbox.

Sorry i disagree..
The ECU will take into account driving styles.
If you drive it for economy it will adjust to get best effect.
Then drive for gooning it, it will (eventually) learn that..
My E39 did the same..
When you drove for economy and tried gooning it then it felt awful for a bit.
Same the other way round trying to get it to settle back into "old man" mode..
I would like to add the Mrs used to goon it and i had the hassle getting it back to economy..
The Throttle bit above apparently only resets the throttle adaptations, the gearbox needs more titivating...
Perhaps the battery off and discharge affected another sensor that feeds into it and was holding back something else???
Mine never stays on the road long enough to learn anything so never really have that issue.... >:D

Re: Bit of a weird one this...
That's interesting stuff. Is it only beemers that have this ability? I remember having to remove my ecu fuses in my integras after tinkering with the engine to allow them to learn.
I'll definetley be performing a reset when the need arises for me to drive her x again (albeit driving solo!)
I can imagine by now it's reverted back with 50 odd miles of her back behind the wheel...
