3.0d breather filter
3.0d breather filter
Can anyone tell me why people seem to be fitting the vortex type breather filter instead of the standard type?

Re: 3.0d breather filter
Because the pre-facelift models have a paper element type and if it was forgotten to be changed, it ended up disintegrating which could lead to a huge repair bills.
Post Facelifted has a vortex type made of plastic and doesn't have the disintegrating issues.

Re: 3.0d breather filter
Where does this filter live on the post-facelift vehicles ?
Re: 3.0d breather filter
Its right next to the air filter, I change mine with every service!
Before I do my next service I was thinking of using the Vortex type as they seem to be popular!

If you fit a vortex one, they are good forever, as there is no filer to block up, do once then forget.

If the breather clogs then there is an increasing risk of over pressure in the engine which can (in the worst case) force oil past the seals in the turbo and a runaway engine or damaged turbo follows. Both are far more expensive to fix that a one off vortex changeout.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

I'll definitely be buying a vortex for the next service, which I will do by March!

Re: 3.0d breather filter
It wasn't fitted on the facelift until sometime in 2005 from the factory, some may have been retro fitted since. Worth checking for peace of mind
