E70 Security update done today (probably)!

So I noticed the post in the General section with links to the Crimewatch vids etc. So called BMW GB and asked them if someone was likely to take my motor if they had a blank key. They agreed the car had not had the free security upgrade and was best to get it sorted asap. They transferred me to my local stealer. Eastern BMW Edinburgh. Booked it in fine.

Today drops kids at breakfast club and takes the car in as requested. Had to talk the wife (43yrs) in to coming with in her car so to drive me home. Harder than you would expect as she had a knee replacement 5 weeks ago and had not drove since.

Gets there, I park in the customer parking then she comes in behind and parks in the disabled bay in front of the main doors. I pop in, ask at reception and was ushered by a very attractive female to one of the many service desks, I am told Jackie would be with me directly. Ten mins later Jackie strolls up, sorry didn't know I had someone waiting (Good start). I ask her how long it would take, don't know was the response, "never done one before". Great, text me when it's done please and I made for the door.
Gets outside and the wife has a face like fizz, "what's up love". She says some bloke came up and chapped on her window, "You can't park there, customer parking is over there" pointing down the carp park. The wife says it's a disabled bay, she says I am disabled, my card is in the widow. "Oh" says the man, "well you will have to straighten  it up". Six disabled bays, no other cars (it's 8:45am). She told him to "Go Away". One tyre on edge of a line.

So she was pissed off all way home.

1hr45mins later, gets a text from Mehgan, car is ready for collection. That's a bit quick I thought, others on the Forum have needed all nighters. So back we go to get the car, we drive in and the wife shouts "That's Him" as a bloke made a hasty retreat on seeing us. In I go, Mehgan is on lunch I will get someone else to see you. Then a guy appears with my key. All done sir. Ok says I, do I get a receipt of work? Nope, no paperwork no. Why? Well I want something for the owners book to say the upgrade has been done. Sorry we don't do that, we can send you a copy of the bill we will send BMW GB when we get round to it. Gave my e-mail and left, thoroughly expecting I will have to chase it up.

But then I think, I wonder if they even did it!

Outside the car has been washed (minus wheels) and interior polished. Nice little surprise and it's parked next to one of those electric jobs!

Jobsworth pr1cks make my blood boil. You're wife should have unleashed hell on him.

Is that Eastern at Newbridge? I use them too and find them completely useless. They did do a cracking job of cleaning the car though...also can confirm I got the same answer when I asked why my service book wasn't stamped, it's all stored on the key, and I also found it on the iDrive, so maybe check in there to see if they've logged it?

Yes it's the one at Newbridge. I'll check Idrive when I go back out. Strange, just got off phone with my brother who said he was hassled by someone on how he parked his Transit last month when in for parts. He said he ignored the guy, because if he didn't he would have thumped him. Big Dave is 6ft5in and 23st!
Sad if they have a loose cannon in there car park. Wife was so fuming she would not go in a look at a Red 1 series she admired through the window. Guess need to spend it elsewhere.

Most updates are about as long as your, but some are longer (my X6 was) due to other patches also being applied at the same time.  I didn't get any paperwork either, nor the book stamped, because it's all stored on BMW servers now.  The only way to tell was the software version number changed in the iDrive and the trip computer etc was cleared.

I'm very surprised they had not done any others.  Every E70/71 made from 2008 to 2011 needed the patch!  Don't they sell any?  Either that or they are ignoring the SIBs from BMW!

What a week. Yesterday it went back to the dealer under warranty to get an airbag replaced and a sticking rear calliper fixed. Picked up and drove home, driving great although it looks like the hight has not been set right as it sits lower than passenger side at rear. Might be my eyes or the fact there is six inches of snow outside. E-mailed dealer who said run it for a day or so if it still looks odd and your not happy we will get it back in. So let see.

Dr C, just along the M8 J4, Armadale. Doubt I will trouble Eastern again, whole thing just left a bad taste. Now that I came to think about it, a few years back I went to see a used car, V70 Ocean Race or something it was called. I arrived at 10mins before they were closing and the guy just said well I'm not staying late so you will have to come back tomorrow. This was a few years back however. Didn't go back!
