What work did you agree to and sign for BEFORE it was done?  If it's not authorised work you agreed to then don't pay.  I did this once with a £500 bill with a BMW Dealership.  They didn't like it but had to agree what they had done was not what was agreed to and therefore I was justified in my refusal.

My dealer charges over £150/hour plus VAT.  If your dealer is a BMW main dealer then I'm not surprised at the bill.

How much is their labour charge?  I can't believe that there is over ten hours work there?

Only agreed to Oil/filter change and Manifold replacement which came in around £400. I mentioned I needed to get car through MOT but did not ask for anything else. Surely I should have been contacted with other work needing done.

£45/hour is labour rate.

I would certainly have expected contact about it. Tell em they did work over what was agreed and to remove the charges - even if it's just the labour.  Oh and demand the old parts back too for proof they did actually change them!

YEp I did that. In fact I specified before handing the keys over that I wanted the old parts back. They werent in the car when I collected so I went back in and said I needed them. The mechanic had 'forgotten' to leave them aside so the bloke in the shirt and tie got in to the skip to retrieve them  :)

I work for a main dealer and if we do any work not authorised by the customer without a signature its on our heads be it if they say no thanks. also its your word against his if you haven't got any job card or pre work agreement with them and believe me if it went to court you would win as like the saying goes the customer is always right, If you explain you only wanted the manifiold replaced and oil and filter service and was quoted 400 pounds then that's what a court would agree that's what you will pay. they should have called or pre quoted a worst case price and got your go ahead first as its not their property to make a judgement on

Got sorted between myself and the dealer. There were a few extra bits of work that were done and I got charges reduced thankfully.

Note to self for future - always get a written quote beforehand!

There's no way I would pay for work that I did not agree to before hand!
Walk in there with the cash of what was agreed and tell them that's all your prepared to pay!
If they've done more work than what you agreed with them, it tuff luck for them!  :))
At least you've got more work done for your money!  8)

Hope the reduced charges were a good amount? I wouldn't have paid any extra!  :))

well if your happy and the works been done to a good standard then that's great news. I hate other people working on my car personally as I have seen some of the work other technicians seem to think is acceptable even at main dealers when in reality is shoddy, you never know in future they may offer you discounted prices to keep your custom now

Yea overall cost reduced significantly. Car driving much better with all the work done and seemingly all good parts used.

Really I just want to keep the full service history. Otherwise I would do all the work myself as well.

Isnt this thread pretty useless if the original question is over-written, making all responses look like random babble? where people have to guess the original question
