Smooth running controller??? Help
Re: Smooth running controller??? Help
Yes I was thinking this but having not replaced an injector before (I've done coil packs which are easy), I don't want to risk causing damage by not knowing what I'm doing !
I've searched high and low for a tutorial but nothing...which leads me to believe that replacing injectors is serious business best left to those that have the experience.
Correct me if I am wrong ..please.

Re: Smooth running controller??? Help
I'm not much of a mechanic so I couldn't possibly advise.
Before I made any decision though I would run the car with diesel cleaner added.
I'm thinking the work you have had done may have disturbed deposits in the fuel system? Anyway for £6 it's probably worth a try.

Re: Smooth running controller??? Help
Hi.
I ran a smooth running controller test and it threw up the following:
Cylinder 1 -0,3
Cylinder 5 -1,4
Cylinder 3 -0,7
Cylinder 6 -1
Cylinder 2 -1,8
Cylinder 4 5.2
So the value in cylinder 4 seems way off !
Any suggestions of where to go next? Would such an extreme value suggest something other than just replacing the injector?
Wiring issue?
Cylinder 4's injector value is well off. It would cause the smooth running fault and the rough running at idol.
I had the same problem with my old 330d. Came back from a 500mile trip through france and was running like a dog. Swapped out the injector and all was fine.
I had done a how to on the old site of how to change the injectors so i will have to look and see what i have here still. Its not the most difficult job in the world just time consuming and takes some patience.
I have just found a powerpoint i did so will try and convert it to pics and post it up here.

Re: Smooth running controller??? Help
Once youve actually got to the injectors and got them loosened up it shouldnt be too difficult to swap them around.

Please keep us updated on your approach to fix this. I have the same problem but suspect its 2 faulty injectors. I have ordered INPA and will test injectors when it arrives. Have you sourced injectors yet?
thanks

Thanks for all the help guys.
I sourced an injector off ebay.de but think I am going to leave the task of putting it in to someone who knows what they are doing (unless that DIY surfaces ).
I'll keep you posted.

Seems there are quite a few people looking for an injector DIY-so if you do happen to find the time to make that post....
Sure would be appreciated.

Re: Smooth running controller??? Help
Hi.
The INPA kit arrived a few days ago so I got it installed the software and run the smooth running controller test.
Cylinder 1 - 4.9
Cylinder 5 - 1.8
Cylinder 3 - 1
Cylinder 6 - 2.4
Cylinder 2 + 6.6
Cylinder 4 - 3.4
The software states
OK: -5.0 to 4.0
Critical: Rate 4.0
My question is injector for cylinder 2 must be faulty but should I be replace injector for cylinder 1 aswell since its right on the limit
Thanks

Re: Smooth running controller??? Help
injectors arrived this morning. I have the car booked in with a BMW indy on Tuesday morning to get injectors replaced in banks 1 and 2, fingers crossed this fixes it, will report back as might be of use to someone else.
Indy couldnt get over how cheap the injectors where (after I get surcharge refunded it will be £105 per injector including delivery), lets home I dont get stun on fitting as I havent used this mechanic before lol
