Morning guys.....I've had me 2009 x5 MSPORT for about 3 weeks now and absolutely love the car.
Basically I'd like to know if this is normal.....
When I stop the car, I put the car into Park, then apply the handbrake. But when I press the button to stop the car, the car seems to jolt forward a fraction.......is this normal??
The reason it's worrying me is that maybe once in every 5 times that I start the car, I get the gear cog sign appear on the instrument cluster near the speedometer along with a message on the idrive screen saying something like " transmission failure P may not be available....take to your BMW garage to get it checked........or words to that effect". Although, the message and symbol does disappear after a few seconds.
Now I must point out that the car drives perfectly with no apparent problems.....never had problems putting the car into any of the gears......no weird noises or anything.
I just thought with the car jolting forward a fraction when I press stop and getting the transmission message now and again when I start the car, it could be related in some way.
I just hope I'm worrying about nothing.

Re: Is this normal ???
Handbrake action = Normal. I always stop the engine and then apply the handbrake. No jerk.
Gear tooth symbol is very much not normal. That needs investigation.
