Had the "STOP OIL PRESSURE". & "OIL LOW"
light on today whilst driving, obliviously panic stations
Stop car fortunately I had oil in boot topped up but when I open the oil cap I could hear the engine tapping
Even more stress
Straight to garage and they identified i had put too much oil, in reference to tapping luckily they had another x5 we opened cap and sounded same is this normal? Guy said its due to chain cam belt
Anyway they did a full oil change on it using ll04 spec oil
Got home scanned car and have a oil pressure sensor error cleared it drove around and scanned again same error has come up
Question is
Sound car told like that when oil cap removed?
How much roughly is oil pressure sensor and how easy is it to replace?
It's a 3.0 diesel 2004

Oil pressure light
Re: Oil pressure light
I think the tapping at idle with oil cap off is normal for the 3.0l d. Its a flap under the oil filler area.
I had oil pressure /stop engine light come on once, shut down & restart but never came on again.
Does you light still stay on after reset?

Re: Oil pressure light
I had this on mine several times when it was brand new, and again just under three years old. Faulty sensor both times, changed under warranty. It's a well known fault.
As for the noise, that is what I would expect with the engine running. There is a dipstick for checking the levels!
The level sensor is in the bottom of the oil pan, part number: 12617508003. Gasket: 12611744292. It isn't cheap at $165 (official listed price in USD).
Three nuts to remove it. Tightening torque is 8Nm.
The pressure sensor is under the oil filter I think. Part number: 12612367061 That one is a lot cheaper.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
