Fuel pump

Post by MagnumAndKaiser » Wed Jan 21, 2015 5:17 pm

Hi all,
can anyone shed some light before I loose the will to live, my 2003 3.0D X5 needs a new fuel pump, having open the tank under the rear seat and removed the pump I went and bought a replacement only to find it is completely different, the pump in the tank is different from almost every suppliers image online, are there two ? one in the tank and one further down the fuel line ? only talking about the electric ones not the high pressure one
any one know ????
many thanks

On all three of my x5's it's always been the pump underneath the car, roughly below the front passenger seat that has failed not the transfer pump in the tank.
It's hidden under a long plastic shield

I think there are actually three.  A lift pump in the tank, intermediate pump as above and high pressure pump for the injectors.
