Trolley Jacks

Having had to change a wheel at the roadside recently I learned how poor the bmw jack is. I have a few jobs to do in January and was going to use the trolley jack I have had for years which is completely serviceable however (and I am too far away to check it at the moment), I don't think it will life the x5 high enough (2004 E53) -it just about gets my old MGB high enough !

So does anyone have any recommendations for a particular make/type of trolley jack 9and an indication of costs?

Also, I know where the jacking points are on each side but I want to place the jack under the centre of front and rear of vehicle to get either end/both wheels off the ground - where is the best place to position the trolley jack?

Bought one in Halfords sale yesterday - 2.25ton - high lift especially for 4x4 - was reduced from £79 to £34 so thought was a bargain - its a solid bit of kit.

Only joined the site yesterday and would like to say thanks for all the welcome messages.

On the subject of Trolley jacks i have also bought the 2.25 Tonne from halfords massive reduction 80 squid to 34 !

If it helps others i have noticed that the top section of the rotating pad of the jack is split pin detachable i had a spare X5 car jack and have

ground off the top rectangular section that fits in the jacking point of the car going to get a mate to weld it properly on the trolley pad and bobs your uncle !

i paid £79 about 4 weeks ago

good jack though......lifts the X quite well

I too have the Halfrauds jack as mentioned, had the X in the air a few times and it aint crushed me yet. As for jack pads I aways use a plank of wood between the pad and wherever I place it. Which is never the jacking points, too many times have the soddin things collapsed on me.

I got one from toolstation for £21 I think just beofre Xmas, 2 tonne job, and a jack pad from reverselogic, does the job brilliantly.

Sounds like the Arcan one I bought too. Superb jack and very highly recommended.

Mine is still boxed in my garage aint had a chance to use it yet but dose look good

LOL, I took mine out the box, gave it a clean and used it within 20 mins of getting it home...

I use one with the Reverselogic pad too. Good kit but got clobbered for import and VAT before they'd let me have it

Also got the wheel bolt alignement tool but it doesn't fit the X6 and it's too much hassle to get it replaced - works on the E46 and E53. I think they sent two the same.

EDIT SWMBO just came back with a Halfords jack for me.............isn't she an angel

Ok, Halfords it is then. So where is best to lift front/rear/sides (aside of the 'defined' side jacking points)
