Another new family member!

Post by Gaby » Sun Jan 18, 2015 9:13 am

Hi all,

I have signed up to this forum as I am now the proud owner of a 2003 Toledo blue 3.0i X5 (facelift model). This forum has been great to browse through in terms of helping me buy one so it's only fair I join the party now!

I would appreciate some help though please guys. I bought the car on condition and mileage and got it for a brilliant price due to a few bits and pieces that need doing. I am not mechanically minded at all!

Currently, the front and rear parking sensors don't work and only the passenger side speaker is working. Not having the sensors was fun whilst reversing in the dark due to the window tinting!

In the future, I would like to upgrade the TV to digital too and there are a few dead pixels on the nav screen.

Like I say, I knocked the price down accordingly to be able to pay for the work to be done so any pointers would be great please. I have used the search facility but have found it hard work as there are so many posts!

Hello and :hi: to the Forum.

Your PDC issues could be sensors or the control module.  If none of them are working that would point towards the main module.  Simplest check is to turn them on and then put your ear close to each sensor and see if it is clicking.  If it is then they are fine.  If not you are looking at a more complex issue.

You may have an Amp failure if the sound is one sided.  The Amp is in the boot.  Search for BM54 on here.  Also search for Baris as he is the guru for repairing and upgrading them for around £150.  Might be worth checking the battery/electronics bay in the boot floor for any signs of water.  You will need to remove the spare wheel and air compressor dome to get at it.

Dead pixels either needs a new screen panel if you are OK with DIY electronics, or again will need to be sent off for repair.

I have had a listen to the sensors as best as I could but can hear nothing sadly. Should I get a control module from ebay as my next stop? They seem pretty reasonably priced.

+1 for Baris at Carphonics. Sent off my faulty BM54 amplifier Monday last week and it was back at my house on the Thursday. Great turnaround. I opted for the iPod connection too. Refitted it all....and then promptly pulled it all out again and sent the TV module off to him today to be upgraded to digital..(Amp has to go back as well as they connect up together). Bear that in mind if you want to upgrade the TV tuner, both have to be sent off so you may as well do them together.
