Maybe buying a Petrol X5
Maybe buying a Petrol X5
Looking to buy petrol X5 2004,05,06 model as we don't do hardly any mileage really and I do a lot of stop starting in ours(3.0d).In hindsight I should have bought the petrol but the neighbour convinced me diesel was best,I can't recall anybody on here having a 3.0 petrol and what's the advice regarding the other petrol models.

Re: Maybe buying a Petrol X5
3.0i not many issues engine wise, very common in 3 series, bit flat and underpowered in an x5, no more economy than a v8 so just get a v8 as a comparison my 6.3 only 1mpg worse than my 3.0i x5

Re: Maybe buying a Petrol X5
go for the v8 petrol if you really want to go petrol. The 3.0 is just as bad on mpg and not as good to drive.

Re: Maybe buying a Petrol X5
I got a 3.0 lpg
If insurance at the time had allowed i would have got a v8. Having said that there isnt anything wrong with the 3.0 it may not be as quick but when most of my driving is in and around London it doesnt really make much difference to me.
Mechanically it has never missed a beat. The engine and gear box works exactly how it should. Maybe i got lucky.

Re: Maybe buying a Petrol X5
I'd suggest the V8 also, i was going for a 3.0 Cayenne until the dealer showed me the figures, virtually no difference in mpg against the V8, plus it sounds much better.

Re: Maybe buying a Petrol X5
Hi Reusch
Have a read of the e53 buying guide it's worth it and helps with deciding which one and budget can be a big factor.
I have face lift 4.4 but wanted the 4.8 The air suspension at front put me off and the repair cost as the 4.8 car I put a deposit on had this prob so left it alone.
But the 4.4 has springs at the front and no pan roof which although looks good has its own pluses and minuses.
I have just added the 4.8 bumpers and For me I have the best of both worlds the looks of a 4.8 but less possible problems. But definitely a V8 all the way

Re: Maybe buying a Petrol X5
I had the Facelifted 3.0i Sport Petrol, it was fantastic and in 3 years never gave me a problem other than handle carrier and handbrake mechanism.
I love the sound of a V8 though!

Re: Maybe buying a Petrol X5
I have the 4.4 Sport (facelift)and its amazing. The sound is fantastic. Decided to go for the 4.4 as there was virtually no difference in mpg but also the 4.4's out there usually had better spec. Used mine every day but now it just sits on the drive....2k in 12 months. Maybe time to say bye bye to it!
