Home Servicing
Guys, when the time comes wouldnt mind mini-servicing the beast myself and therefore is there a list of tasks on here that I would carry out to service the car, such as air filters, oil filters, etc. or can we complile a list of tasks to carry out so people can refer to it, may be task, parts required and how to, for each step.

Re: Home Servicing
Not sure why there aren't any replies to this but I like to do the following:-
Every 7500 miles a full oil and filter change
New air filter
New pollen filter
New brake fluid flush
New coolant
New spark plugs every two years
Full clean, polish, seal, wax
Put a tank of injector cleaner through the system
Whenever I get a new car, I always do the above but also :-
If manual change gearbox fluid
Change front / rear diff oil
Fuel filter
Air conditioning anti bacterial flush
Every 7500 miles a full oil and filter change
New air filter
New pollen filter
New brake fluid flush
New coolant
New spark plugs every two years
Full clean, polish, seal, wax
Put a tank of injector cleaner through the system

Change front / rear diff oil
Fuel filter
Air conditioning anti bacterial flush

I think some of that's s bit overkill if doing all that every 7.5k miles.

Re: Home Servicing
All fine and I concur with you... however all that 'domestic/DIY' work is mainly applicable for vehicles of 10y plus.
Albeit you could keep hold of receipts etc some would still need/want to see the stamp in the book [from a dealer/specialist].
I always go for a bit of hybrid... let dealers do the regular oil+filter service and I could do the rest
New air filter
New pollen filter
New spark plugs every 2-4 years
Full clean, polish, seal, wax
Put a tank of injector cleaner through the system
and change the oil in the diff/gearbox when necessary, every 80-100k miles, every 7-10 years etc.
... i'm with you on preventative maintenance.

To be fair maybe 7.5k is a bit over kill for this car, i do this on my M3 as I think the standard BMW 15,000 mile interval is too much for a performance car like the M3.
That said the 4.6is is a high performance machine, ok its not as highly strung as the M3 because of the big V8 but i still wouldn't want to wait 15,500 miles be between oil services.
I think i'll do it every 10,000 miles.

Re: Home Servicing
You would need to drive the S54 engined cars in an extremely sensible fashion to get anywhere close to a 15,500 mile service interval given that it's actually determined by the amount of fuel used. 8/9000 miles is more likely to be the gap between services.
