Winter Woes

Post by Junkie » Thu Dec 30, 2010 10:40 pm

Hi gang,

Here we are again with the annual challenges that face us as owners of the E53.

Personally, my example has suffered the traditional frozen locks, random ABS alarms and worst of all the gear selection not going beyond 3rd until warmed up.

Reading the threads from what I view as 'the majority' it is clear that the dated versions like mine (2001) are beginning to falter in many ways, often expensive as is the case with a circa £50K vehicle of course.

At the moment its sort of behaving, with nothing more than a suspension knock from the front offside and the rear subframe bushes creaking, I'll get round to it...

Typically British we soldier on.....

Good man,

Keep going, yes the pre-facelift are susceptible to more problems but they were the first before the facelift got sorted.

Thankfully this site should help with bushes, knocking noises, etc

Wish you troube-free motoring here on in!

I like so many others am determined that this car I won't get rid of once i've done the repairs. The last 3 have gone that way and i still see them bombing around...Bastards...Just think of all the good times and whilst theres a Sanj and co around for advice just leave some room on the credit cards for parts :D

I have changed car so many times over the past few years, I have vowed to keep the 4.8 and repair/mod it when ever I have any issues. I like the way it looks and handles and love the engine and have chucked away so much money on modding cars and then selling them.

Chin up and keep on trucking......lol

I must admit to having been one of the 'this car has to go coz it's getting expensive Club' members, but to be honest after a gearbox failure was repaired and the car having less than 47k miles on it we have decided that our 6 year old E53 is just too useful, great to drive, and relatively youthful mechanically to get rid of. So instead of trading it when I bought the X6, we kept it and my wife now runs it which means her E46 convertible is being kept as a modern classic. Yeah it's now getting wear and tear issues, but brakes and batteries will fail and are part of ownership. The rest is covered by a warranty.

I guess we'll have it a while yet then............ 8-)

A few niggles may have been ironed out with the facelift but majority of known issues are present on both prefacelift & facelift cars. As the cars get older, plenty of folk are happy to get rid & pass on issues to the next owner(s).

I appreciate there may have been some facelifts, however, I never considered mine significantly less reliabale than a facelift.
